Greetings from Sydney!
The 5th World Conference on Women and Sport handed over the Chairpersonship and host of the International Working Group on Women and Sport secretariat from Australia to Finland.
Matilda Mwaba and Lombe Mwambwa was presenting a paper and made a poster presentation. They are both from NOWSPAR.
The key conference legacy is an advocacy tool for promotion, tracking and advocacy for women's leadership in sport- a score card of key indicators on which International Working Group for Women and Sport (IWG) members will report.
The major concerns to be addressed between now and the next Conference in Helsinki, Finland in the year 2014 are:
1. Collaboration on research and sharing of outcomes for action on
- Violence against women in sport
- Leadership of women in sport
- Increasing media coverage of women in sport
- Increasing participation of young women in sport
2. Closer networking within the region and between continents to promote learning and sharing
3. Broader and deeper cooperation with the United Nations system and human rights framework- particularly the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Violence Against Women.
