Every Body Matters NOWSPAR Zambia update

11/17/2009
Matilda Mwaba
NOWSPARs advocacy campaign is even more heightened at this time of the year as NOWSPAR joins the global movement in bringing to the fore women’s rights to sport and their contributions to social economic development in sport

NOWSPARs work to promote equitable engagement of women in sport at all levels is vital to the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights.

As Zambia strives to meet the MDG targets and to create an environment where all have their needs equitably met, we are doing our bit through advocacy. NOWSPAR are pleased to share with all a few highlights of the activities that will take place in late November and December.

The Annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence which takes place from 25th November to 10th December is this year being held under the theme- Commit Act Demand: We CAN End Violence Against Women. This year we again invite you to join us in taking action.

World AIDS Day 2009: Universal Access and Human Rights is the theme for this years' commemoration of World AIDS Day. NOWSPAR through the Kicking AIDS Out programme will be participating by conducting media awareness and supporting our members and chapters who are hosting awareness activities.

Human Rights Day 2009: This year the theme is “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. But the right to sport is one of the most unfulfilled rights, and due to the gender structure of our societies women's ability to claim this right is drastically reduced.

The NOWSPAR theme ' Every Body Matters' embodies the spirit and values of human rights and on this day we add our voices to the global drive for gender justice. Women Play Think Change: The 5th World Conference on Women and Sport will be held from 20 to 23 May 2010 in Sydney, Australia under the theme Women Play Think Change.
