SCORE and Todos volunteers engage young people in Kicking Aids Out games as part of the international campaign “Stand up and take action”
This event focused on creating awareness around millennium goal 6; Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases. In the sports centre of Tilburg University in The Netherlands over 400 visitors were asked to join Kicking Aids Out games during their regular sports classes. Different games were used to fit the context of the sports played. During volleyball practice the famous condom ball was used to do a ball game which also tested their knowledge of HIV/AIDS by asking quiz questions. In the fitness area a different approach was taken. Visitors were asked to join a quick quiz on HIV/AIDS facts. To integrate the Kicking Aids Out activity into their workout answers were given by doing ab stretches . But there was more than just Kicking AIDS Out activities. A group of white clothed ‘pregnant’ women walked through the sports centre and invited visitors to listen to a message from the ‘unborn’ child. This poetic message informed visitors about the risks of malaria for both mother and child and ended with malaria prevention tips. Both volunteers and participants were very enthusiastic.
