World AIDS Day events in the Network

Most of the organisations in the Kicking AIDS Out Network will host special events or take part in media awareness related to World AIDS Day 2009

In Hillbrow Johannesburg South Africa in Marks Park the 28th of November one of the events within the Network has taken place. The theme was youth against AIDS and crime. Football Games for U 15 and U19 was played and the participants and coaches was taken through an introduction of Kicking AIDS Out with games as warm up by one of the SCORE Kicking AIDS Out Peerleaders. The event was ended with a football game between SAPS representatives from Hillbrow and the coaches of the teams.

On the 1st of December SCORE is hosting a World AIDS Day in Mbekweni, Paarl Western Cape South Africa. The main SCORE World AIDS Day event will be hosted in Langa, Cape Town, South Africa on the 5th of December where communities such as Khayelitsha and Hannover Park will be represented in play.

 

In Lesotho there are five events to be held in five districts. The theme of the events is Universal Access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care recognising these as human rights. The different events are holding different activities such as; Dramas and Open Discussion about HIV/AIDs, Movement Games, Five aside Soccer, Netball and Volleyball. The target groups are youths and children such as orphans. The coordinators are all Peerleaders, Leader Level 1s or Leader Level 2s.  

 

In an update from the Caribbean the first World AIDS Day celebration for children in Jamaica was held on the 27th of November. Francine McDonald took part and facilitated Kicking AIDS Out games. There will also be held a National World AIDS Day celebration in Jamaica on December 1st. The same day Kicking AIDS Out games will be facilitated at the University of the West Indies (UWI). 

 

The associate organisation Coaching for Hope is together with two partner organisations in Cape Town, namely Amandla Ku Lutsha and Ambitious Youth Khayelitsha, hosting a soccer tournament in site C Khayelitsha on the 1st of December.
