The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports ( in short NIF) together with UNICEF Zimbabwe and the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC), was officially introducing the Sport and Recreation Commission’s ‘Community Sport Development Program’- a program that brings the many benefits of sport directly to the youth and communities of Zimbabwe.
For Norway - NIF, the Community Sport Development Program is the result of 18 years of Norway’s commitment to sport in Zimbabwe, thanks to the Norwegian Government support through Norad to NIF.
The program is anticipating that community sports clubs with quality leadership, will be the norm in most communities throughout of Zimbabwe. It means an increase and equal opportunity for girls and boys to participate in sport, develop as coaches and officials and become active participants in the youth driven program ‘Youth Education through Sport’ - a program which aims to educate young people about HIV/AIDS and other issues affecting their lives, while instilling a sense of community responsibility. YES is using Kicking AIDS Out as its implementations model.
The opening was ended by a true Zimbabwean drumsession.
