One thing that is fundamental to the Kicking AIDS Out network is that a strong sports structure and program must be in place in order for the life skills training curriculum and the approach to make an impact on youth in a respective program.  Kicking AIDS Out is not a program that an organization can learn and implement.  By definition Kicking AIDS Out is an approach to youth empowerment and life skills education that organizations can learn and integrate into strong and existing sport programs. 

Organizations applying for membership should have established sport for development programs, leagues and activities that they are already implementing.  These programs should have existing active youth leaders and coaches that display the core competencies and skills necessary to qualify as strong candidates for Kicking AIDS Out training at various levels.

The uniqueness of the Kicking AIDS Out curriculum is the comprehensive training youth leaders receive on how they can combine sport skills and life skills education in the sport and physical activities that they are already offering in their existing programs.   While it is not sufficient to offer only HIV and AIDS information and education to youth, Kicking AIDS Out also promotes that it is not sufficient to offer only sports specific programs in soccer or netball as a way of promoting life skills development.

Kicking AIDS Out strives to combine the sports skill component and the life skills component in development through sport programs to maximize youth leadership and life skills education.
