Sport as a tool

Young people do not participate in sports because it offers them yet another possibility of learning important things – they do sport because it is fun. The primary value of sport is sport itself.  With this said, it is important that Kicking AIDS Out is integrated into strong sports programming structures – structures that offer meaningful opportunities for participation and youth leadership development

Participating in sport can be thrilling and exciting.  Sports programming that is well organized is fun to be part of and offers many opportunities for advancement.  Sport can be addictive.  It can be rewarding to be involved in sport at all levels – participating, coaching and administrating.

In order to utilise sport effectively, participants must have access to quality; quality coaches, quality administrators, quality leadership, quality values and behaviour, and quality structures. Organisations in the Kicking AIDS Out Network aim to deliver this quality throughout.
