A striker and a defender is ready

6/24/2009
Linda Torége
At the first day at East Africa Cup Faith and Malvin were gearing up for seminars and soccergames in Moshi with the Kicking AIDS Out Resource team at East Africa Cup

After 24 hours travel from Uganda, through Kenya to Tanzania defender Faith Malunga 13 years old from St Martin and Mulago Primary School has arrived. She has played soccer for 3 years. Faith also plays netball. Faith tells me she wants to win the cup this year and is prepared to defend.

Faith says: “The good thing about the cup is that I have already met friends and learned new things”.

Faith wants to become a teacher when she is ”old”, smiling discretely glimpsing to her coach and teacher Robert.

Striker Malvin Waskwa 16 years old also wants to study further to become a teacher at highschool. Today was fun he says. “I also learned about communication and HIV, one of the activities was about protecting each other and ourselves through communicate and always knowing the correct information.” Malvin wants his team to win. “We will have to work hard to win”. Malvin is also from Uganda and the organisation CHRISC.

The Rwandans made the opening special as they sang their National anthem for the crowd of 1000 participants, coaches, leaders, referees, visitors and organisers from seven countries.
