Six communities across Western Cape namely Dysselsdorp, Khayelitsha, Riversonderend, Mbekweni, zoar and Hanover Park will be marking Human Rights Day with sports festivals. The events will be collaboration within SCORE Volunteer, community people and Schools co-operating in different activities.
The first event will kick off on the 20th of March at Riversonderend giving opportunity to the whole community to get on board - with the Ward Councillor contributing army size portions of biriyani (rice dish) for the participants featuring netball and football conducted by trained Coaching for Hope coaches and attendees of today's Girls only.
This will be followed by activities to happen on the 22nd of March at Dysselsdorp on a special collaboration between able bodied and disabled bodied participants with trained Kicking AIDS Out Peer leaders and leader level 1 coaches adapting activities to be used in the games and activities. The same day Hanover will feature 500 participants from school age to seniors, participating in football, netball and dance with the support of Hanover Park SAPS, recently trained Coaching for Hope coaches and SCORE community volunteers. Present will also be UNICEF Netherlands who are filming four learners from Mount view High School as part of a 55 minute documentary to be screened during the World Cup in the Netherlands. The documentary is focussing on four youth who have found a difference in their lives through participation in sport in Hanover Park.
Activities will also be fuelling up in Mbekweni with community collaboration between various organisations working in the community, all of whom are bringing something to contribute .They will be supported by the five schools that SCORE work with in Mbekweni. Khayelitsha and Zoar having activities where from the participants on the day, 14 (7 male and 7 female) will be selected for the Cup of Heroes squad.
