Sport in Action is a non-governmental organization whose purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through sport and recreational activities. Founded in 1998, SIA was the first Zambian sports NGO. With Sport for Development (the use of sport as a tool for social change) as its underlying principle, SIA positively impacts the lives of thousands of children throughout 24 districts in Zambia.
SIA staff and volunteers work with more than 80, 000 children each week, many of whom come from challenging backgrounds. Through this work lives have been transformed due to knowledge enhancement in the area of healthy and life skills behavioral change towards family and peers and improvement in sporting abilities
The Third Sport for Development Awards – Zambia’s premier grassroots sports award ceremony will be held on the 26th of November, 2010 at Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka.
An initiative of Sport In Action (SIA), the awards are aimed at identifying some of the unsung heroes who are contributing effectively to the country’s sport development, thereby providing motivation in the development process.
After the successful 2009 awards ceremony exclusively developed with key partners, SIA hopes to further inspire Zambians to share in the development of various sports in the country by staging an even better event this year.
Nominations for this year awards recipients from across the country started on the 10th of October, 2010 Entries should be submitted not later than the 12th of November, 2010 at 17:00 hours.
Nominations for potential award recipients are expected to be accompanied with full names, contact details, province, category nominated, at least two referees and a brief profile not exceeding 500 words.
There are
12 categories in this year’s event and individuals or institutions would not be nominated in more than two categories.
