The awareness tournament involves youths in educating and empowering their communities, thus providing them with an opportunity to contribute to rebuild their communities.
The event is supported by Youth Development through Football (YDF) an international programme implemented by GTZ in up to 10 African countries within Africa with South Africa being the focal country in view of the forth coming Soccer World Cup.
The event was flagged off by the Director of Sport from the Ministry of Sport, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Honourable Frank Meyke, with a match past that was led by Zambia Army brass band with all participating teams taking part. Each team carried a banner displaying a message of their choice but in line with the Kicking AIDS Out! Other Guests include Honourable Garry Chanda, Member of Parliament for Kanyama Constituency, UNICEF Representative, GTZ and other Partners Representatives.
Each team comprised players not more than 16yrs old boys and girls. At every time, each team had a minimum of 3girls on the pitch. Kicking AIDS Out! Session EduSport Circuit games were used and 3 stations were established for information dissemination. At each station, a theme for discussion and learning was picked. Three topics were picked for these stations. Station one had “The Difference between HIV and AIDS”, station two was for “Transmission of HIV” and Station three had“Immune System and well being” At the closing ceremony, a Drama group performed educational plays and dances and beyond that they group entertained the crowds Objectives:
- To raise awareness on issues surrounding HIV/AIDS
- To keep young people active, busy and healthy
- To offer young people an opportunity to share ideas, interact and learn from other communities
- Allowing Girls and Boys to work together.
