Florence's story

6/13/2008
Mette Hesjedal
Find out what sport has meant to Florence Mwila from Edusport in Zambia.
I, like most of my peers, am a product of a society ravaged by AIDS.  I was orphaned at a very young age. I grew up seeking love and compassion and wanting to be loved, like everyone else. Not seeing alternatives, I became pregnant at the age of 14. This was not received well with my relatives. I was sent in a nomadic shuffle among my extended family.  I was a difficult time, but because I did not want this to be my life and a fortunate meeting with Kicking AIDS Out!, I was given an opportunity to learn, to teach and to become someone to look up to.  Through Kicking AIDS Out!, I have gained the respect of others, my community, but most of all, I have gained self respect and self esteem.

Florence Mwila, Edusport, Zambia
