The internship came as a great opportunity for me. I was so exited about the whole thing. I had a lot running in my mind as I had a lot of expectations, and I didn’t even think of how it would be like spending two months away from home.
The first two weeks were just fine, we were introduced to the office and the work that we will be doing for the two months of our internship, our expectations and getting to know people in the office. It was in the third week that I came to realize that there is a lot of work being done in the Kicking AIDS out Office. It was a different environment as compared to SEDYEL because we have a lot of young people coming into the office everyday, making noise moving from one office to another, playing in the field, singing, doing their rehearsals and George and Linda are always stuck on their computers and we found ourselves getting used and adapting to the environment, me and my colleague Raymond form SCORE Namibia. Apart from doing a lot of office work, we got a chance to go out with SCORE leaders during the weekends to their events and it was great since we got to mingle around with young people, playing sport.
We learnt a lot of new things because of the exposure we were given, George and Linda was open to us; they were free to share everything with us. We were even free to ask wherever we wanted some guidance. I am now proud because I know what Kicking AIDS Out is and the role of the secretariat. We were given some tasks to do like working on the essay survey that was sent to LL1, s and LL 2,s in the network, organizations applying to be members of the network, newsletter’s. I was so happy because I learnt a lot of new things. We were part of organizing the Leader Level 2 Training, Programs meeting and the biennial meeting which were one of the biggest events for Kicking AIDS Out 2010, it opened my eyes a lot, organizing such big events and being part of the biennial meeting for the first time was a big achievement for me.
